Uptown Marion Market will open its doors for the season on June 11
Marion, Iowa – On Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Uptown Marion Market will open its doors for the season.
Uptown’s City Square Park and 7th Avenue will be the site of the market’s location.
There will be over 35 local vendors present, selling fresh produce, wine, honey, baked goods, and artisanal items, among other things. Attendees are strongly encouraged to spend the day in Marion by going to restaurants, shops, and other local businesses.
On June 11, the incredible balloon artistry of The Balloon Buffoons, face painting by Lindsay, plus performances by the Heart of Marion Community Choir and the steel drum band Pandelirium, are all scheduled to take place. In addition, the Marion Heritage Center will have its annual Pancake Breakfast at the Depot in City Square Park between the hours of 7:30 and 11:30 in the morning. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Heritage Center for a price of $8.00 each, or on the day of the event at the same location.
This year will see the return of the Power of Produce (POP) program, which was developed in collaboration with the Linn County Iowa State University Extension & Outreach. Children are given the chance to interact with local farmers, participate in educational activities and demonstrations, and try out new fruits and vegetables as part of the POP Club, which offers a fun way for kids to become involved in the community’s food system.
The first thirty children to register at each market will each get three dollars in POP Bucks, which can be used on produce at any of the participating vendors. All children are welcome to join in the activities, as long as there are enough supplies.
On July 9, August 13, and September 24, the Uptown Marion Market will take place from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Visit marioncc.org or facebook.com/MarionIAChamber to see information on the vendors and to get a map of the market.
