Cedar Rapids residents warned of new scam attempts
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Cedar Rapids residents were warned of a new scam attempt through the police department’s Facebook page.
A local person received a phone call from Publishers Clearing House saying that he won $250,000. The message also said that he will receive the money by two individuals with identification who will arrive in a white car with FedEx written on the side. Prior to the money drop-off, he must pay a 5% service fee in cash
The Cedar Rapids Police Department got in touch with Publishing Clearing House and stated they never notify winners via phone, Facebook or other social media sites. Winners also are never asked to pay a fee to claim their prize.
Officials are warning the residents not to believe if they receive unsolicited calls claiming they won something but have to pay fee to receive the prize.
