Number of traffic fatalities in Iowa expected to exceed 2020 figure
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the number of traffic deaths on Iowa’s roads in 2021 is expected to surpass the figure from 2020.
So far this year, it has reported 341 deaths. That’s only two short of 2020’s mark of 343.
To try to reduce that number, the Iowa State Patrol launched the ‘Fatality Reduction Task Force’ in 2020.
While there hasn’t been any visible change, troopers have seen some factors that lead to collisions.
This year, 40% of those killed in car accidents were not wearing seatbelts.
Troopers are urging motorists to drive sober and safely this weekend as the New Year approaches.
